The Black Oak Lake Monitor Program assigns specific sections of the lake to volunteers (Lake Monitors) whose responsibility is to inspect their assigned section on a minimum monthly basis from May through September and maintain records of their inspections for use in a master data base. This program was set up by Joe Beers and is now run by Cindy Miller.
Inspections are made from a boat in the susceptible area (4 to 14 ft. depth) and any suspicious findings are reported to Cindy or Walt Bates for follow up. If you’re in doubt as to what you’ve found take a good photo of it and send it Walt who will forward it to a DNR expert. Finding and identifying invasive species early in their infestation is critical in controlling their growth and maintaining the quality of Black Oak for the future. If you are interested in becoming a monitor contact Cindy Miller for more information and a section assignment.
